Join us on our fun Lakes weekender ride. We organize these weekends to be a laid-back ride through the Lake District National Park, with plenty of coffee stops and lunch stops along the way. With two short riding days, it gives people new to touring a chance to dip their toe in the water without going too far from home, and a chance for old friends to catch up. We will gather at our meeting point (services somewhere on the M6) where our tour guides will be waiting to greet you.
We have graded this tour – Suitable for all
Day 1: Ride out (110 miles)
After a short briefing we will set off on today’s ride, first, a short motorway ride up towards Lake Windermere and then we will head for our first pass of the day Wrynose Pass, one of the steepest roads in England with gradients up to 1 in 3. At the top there’s three Shire Stones, marking the meeting point of the historic counties of Cumberland, Lancashire, and Westmorland. From here it’s onto Hardnott Pass, which takes us through the middle of the Lake District, steep and twisty, but great fun and spectacular views. After a coffee stop, we head for Coniston, our lunch stop and a chance to visit the Ruskin Museum. After lunch, we’ll head back Windermere and our hotel.
Day 2: Ride out (115 miles)
After breakfast, it’s time to head out and enjoy more of what the Lake District National Park has to offer. We’ll head south along Lake Windermere to Newby Bridge then across the fells towards Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England and on to our first pass of the day, Honister Pass, with an altitude of 1167 ft its one of the highest passes in the region, at the summit we’ll stop for coffee and a look around at the Honister slate mine. From here we continue along the Honister pass and on to Keswick where you’ll have time for some lunch and a look around. After lunch, we head for our second pass of the day, Kirkstone Pass, Lake District’s highest pass and Kirkstone Pass Inn, the third highest public house in England. From here it’s down the Kirkstone Pass to Windermere and our hotel.
With the bikes safely parked we should have plenty of time to explore Windermere and grab a beer or two, tonight you can enjoy a group meal in the hotel or venture out, it’s up to you.
