Day 1 (2nd August): Calais to Pont a Mousson (260 miles)
We will assemble at our designated meeting point in Folkestone Kent. After short introductions and a quick briefing, we’ll make our way to the Eurotunnel for our crossing to Calais. Once in Calais we will use the motorway for the first 80 miles of our journey to make some headway and onto some more interesting roads. After a quick coffee stop, we head for the twisty roads of the Ardennes region, passing close to the Belgium border through the French countryside and onto our hotel close to the river in Pont a Mousson.
Day 2 (3rd August): Pont a Mousson to Freiburg (240 miles)
After breakfast, we head for the twisty roads of the Northern Vosges Mountains. We will cross the Rhine River into the Black Forest. We head for the spa town of Baden Baden to ride the famous Schwarzwald Hochstrasse. With a perfect tarmac surface, fast sweeping and hairpin bends and views across the Black Forest. It surely must have been designed by a biker. We will visit the world’s largest cuckoo clock in Schonach and one of the many souvenir shops before heading for our hotel in Freiburg – our base for the next two nights.
Day 3 (4th August): Freiburg ride out (approx 200 miles)
Today we will explore more of the black forest ride past the beautiful lakes of Titisee and Schluchsee have lunch at Rhein falls then back past Feldberg, which at 1493 metres is the highest Mountain in Germany outside the Alps.
Day 4 (5th August): Freiburg to the Vosges Mountains (220 miles)
Today we head across the Rhine and back into France. Onto the twisty roads of the Vosges Mountains following the ‘Route des Crete’. This winding scenic road will take us past the peaks of Le Hohneck and Le Grand Ballon, reaching a height of 1424 metres it is the highest summit in the Vosges Mountains. After lunch, we continue through the heart of the Vosges. We’ll ride the Col du Wettstein, Col des Bagenelles, Col de Saint Marie, Col de Steige and Col du Donon. From here it’s only a short ride to our hotel where we arrive just in time for a well-deserved beer or glass of wine.
Day 5 (6th August): Labaroche to Calais (260 miles)
I’m afraid it’s home time all too soon. We head towards Ardennes region once more before heading into Reim’s lunch then a quick stop off at Le Circuit de Reims-Gueux before joining the motorway for our last push to catch our afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK.
